fingerprint with blue backgroundOne of the goals of Christian apologetics is to look at all the different features of reality and show how they are best explained by the Christian worldview. If Christianity is true, we should expect it to make better sense of the world around us than any other competing view. For someone examining Christianity from an evidential perspective, there isn’t one single argument that offers 100% proof, but there is no such argument for any worldview. Rather, we must make a cumulative case for our worldview, a case that looks at all the pieces of the puzzle of reality. The case for Christianity gets stronger and stronger as we investigate more and more of the world around and the world within.

In the most recent PVCC Apologetics class, we did just that. We examined several features of reality and demonstrated how they point to the existence of God and confirm the Christian worldview. On the flip side, this positive evidence for God also presents a difficulty for the person who would attempt to explain the same features of reality without God. In the class we discussed the following topics:

  • Morality – Why a universal, objective moral law points can only be explained by transcendent lawgiver – confirming the traditional Christian position.
  • Fine Tuning – The universe has over 50 finely tuned constants that make life possible. A finely tuned universe points to a fine tuner.
  • The Soul – The immaterial soul that is the you of you points to an immaterial reality – a reality that aligns perfectly with the Christian worldview.
  • Beauty – Objective standards of beauty point to an ultimate standard of beauty. As is the case with all beautiful things, they point beyond themselves to a more beautiful reality.
  • Desire – To quote C.S. Lewis: “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.”
