Resources on Pornography Addiction

pornaddictionPorn addiction is real and it is rampant; and statistics have shown us that those who attend church are not exempt. Addiction rates are about equal for those who attend church vs. those who don’t. And let’s face it, porn addiction kills. It is ruining marriages, leading to sexual abuse, and enslaving millions. An LCSW counselor recently told me that the brain of a porn addict looks like the brain of a cocaine addict! And the problem is that this is a secret sin, rarely brought to light. Additionally, few want to even talk about it. But if you are married (male or female), you have children, or you are a teenager, you need to be educated on this issue. What does the Bible say about it? How bad can the addiction really be? How can I keep myself from falling into this sin? If I am addicted, how can I get out of my addiction and find healing? These are all great questions – ones we should be asking ourselves.

In order to help you with this o-so-troublesome issue, I have compiled a list of resources you may find helpful.

  • Family Survival in an X-Rated World by Adrian Rogers is a great book for parents who are concerned about pornography and their families. This book gives some general overviews about the problem and then some practical ways you can safeguard your family (some are outdated as technology has changed rapidly).
  • Porn Again Christian – In this great little booklet, Mark Driscoll – in typical blunt Mark Driscoll fashion – lays out the problems and realities of pornography and masturbation and offers a Biblical solution for help in overcoming the addiction. The booklet ends with a chilling interview with Ted Bundy and his descent from pornography to rape and murder.
  • Undefiled by Harry Schaumburg is a fantastic book that offers a solid gospel-centered approach to overcoming porn addiction. It also offers a critique of the modern self-help methods of overcoming porn addiction. This would be a great book to give to a professing Christian struggling with porn addiction.
  • Sexual Detox by Tim Challies is a very short book that discusses porn, marriage, masturbation, and how to detox your soul and your bedroom. I highly recommend this book.
  • X3Watch is a great filtering/accountability program that can help protect you and your loved ones from pornography.

The sin of porn is alluring and offering of ultimate pleasure, but it is a lie. It only offers bondage. Let’s fight against this sin by the power of God in Christ.

The well wisher of your soul,
